Changes to Recycling Curbside Collection Services. Effective January 1, 2026
Updated: Dec 19, 2025
Recycling Changes Coming January 1, 2026
Starting January 1, 2026, Howick Township will move to Ontario’s new producer-led recycling program.
What’s changing?
- Residential properties only (single-family & multi-unit) will receive curbside recycling, managed by Waste Management Canada.
- More materials can be recycled, and curbside pickup stays bi-weekly.
- Businesses, Industrial, Commercial & Institutional (IC&I) properties will no longer receive curbside recycling and must arrange their own service.
Recycling Depot Update:
The Howick Landfill Recycling Depot will remain open for IC&I properties.
New recycling tipping fees (effective Jan 1, 2026):
$2.00 per blue box or bag of recyclables
$2.00 per blue box, armful load, or bundle of cardboard
These fees help cover costs so residents aren’t paying for business recycling.
Important Notes:
Residential recycling should go curbside — fees apply if taken to the landfill.
- Garbage collection is unchanged: bi-weekly, clear bags with a $3 bag tag.
- Businesses operating from an eligible residence will still receive residential curbside service.
Thanks for helping keep Howick clean and recycling strong!
