Open Air Burn Permits

Updated: Aug 9, 2023

All Rural Open Air Burning in Howick Township requires a Permit.

A burn permit will be required annually ONLY for rural open air burning. Permits are not required for recreational (camp) fires. The cost of a permit is $50.00 and is valid for the property registered. If you own multiple properties, they can be registered on the same permit. Properties registered with a permit will not be required to call in prior to each burn, but for larger/multiple burns, it is still recommended to call in prior to burning to avoid any issues. You will be provided with a copy of the Howick Township Open Air Burning By-Law for reference. Remember YOU are responsible for your burning and costs associated with any fire department response to an illegal open air burn.
